White Sox Fans Feel The Text Vibe

August 16, 2004

U.S. Cellular has drafted Vibes Media to enable the delivery of interactive text messaging applications to White Sox fans in Chicago via the baseball stadium’s Jumbotron.

The White Sox Question of the Day game splashes a trivia question relating to baseball, the White Sox or other teams. Once the question is displayed, fans can text message their answer. Fans are then invited to use text messaging to play additional trivia rounds. For each correct answer, fans are entered into a drawing to win a host of prizes, including White Sox tickets, autographed merchandise, the chance to meet the manager and take the field with the players.

For fans who can’t make it to the stadium on game day, U.S. Cellular also makes the game accessible through Fox TV’s White Sox game broadcasts.

The White Sox are not the first sports team to embrace Vibes’ technology. The company also has assisted in text message-based marketing campaigns for the Chicago Fire, Chicago Rush and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Last week, Vibes announced its application was being used by Tweeter Center in Chicago to get concert-goers involved before, during and after a show through the use of real-time text messaging.
